Eliminating Moles: Understand the Battle, Part 2

eliminating moles in july, august, and september.

As Northwest Mole Pros discussed previously, most homeowners have an annual sequence of activities to maintain and beautify their homes. Aeration, tilling, fertilizing, watering, and so on. Little do they know that the actions that enhance their lawn and beds may ALSO make eliminating moles more difficult!

Eliminating Moles: Your Calendar Calls to Action

You can’t stop nourishing, maintaining, and beautifying your yard, but you may need to employ some countermeasures to keep a mole infestation at bay.  Let’s flip the page on our annual calendar and identify possible mole countermeasures to try as spring becomes summer.

Eliminating Moles, July through September

The summer months are a great time to be in Seattle, with her long evenings, warmer temperatures and less rain.  This is also a key time for moles!  The young pups who arrived in early May are beginning to eat Momma out of house and home.  So, by late June and early July, it is time to send these young ones packing.  This means a 3-to-5-fold increase in activity.  Homeowners have begun watering their beautiful green lawns and blossoming flower beds and cannot believe the amount of destruction that has occurred overnight or since just last weekend.  Watering draws earthworms and grubs from less-watered areas that are starting to dry out.  Moles need to eat their body weight each day so they follow the food source to your nicely watered lawns and beds.

Okay, enough of the horror stories. What’s the countermeasure for eliminating moles? For most homeowners, not watering isn’t an option.  Therefore, your only option is early detection and elimination.  Don’t get suckered by the false hope of ‘oh, it’s only a little activity, it will go away’.  These guys are digging machines capable covering over 200 feet in a single day.  Don’t flip a coin and be on the losing end to a mole.
